At 11.21pm on Saturday 7th January a 999 call was received reporting a fire in a dormer bungalow on Lytham Road, Freckleton, Lancashire in which it was said that people were trapped inside. Fire crews from Lytham, St Annes and Wesham fire stations were quickly on the scene and rescued five people. A man of 19, two (believed to be twin) girls aged 4 and a little boy aged 2 were unconscious and the fifth casualty, a woman (age unknown) was uninjured and was led to safety.
Tragically, in spite of the efforts of medical teams, the man and all three children could not be revived and died as a result of their injuries.
In summary, Group Manager Phil Cox, senior fire officer at the incident states,
“It is simply not possible to adequately express the measure of sympathy we feel for those who have lost loved ones in this terrible incident. Every effort was made by our firefighters, by paramedics and doctors and by the police to save them.”
“An investigation by us and the police into the cause of the fire has begun. As yet, it is not possible to give an indication as to the cause, but when any information is available that may be released we will do so.
