Campaign 2
On Monday 4th June the Queen will celebrate 60 years on the throne. To mark the occasion, 2,012 beacons will be lit across the United Kingdom with the Queen leading the celebrations lighting a national beacon at 22:30.
Across Lancashire, there will be two types of beacons being lit; a bonfire beacon or a church beacon. For both types of beacons, guidance and safety information has been issued by the Department for Media, Culture and Sport on www.diamondjubileebeacons.co.uk.
Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service has produced a leaflet with messages on how to stay safe from fire over the Jubilee celebtrations, please click here to read the leaflet.
Below are generic messages for anyone organising a public event:
- Contact your council to see if a liscense is required
- Make sure that the event is planned safely without the need for a fire engine
- Complete a risk assessment before the event and reduce any risks that you identify
General points that you should consider:
- Never use accelerants to light a bonfire
- Make sure that you have a well constructed cordon between the bonfire and spectators
- Light the fire using tapers on long poles (at least 2 metres)
- Ensure that the fire is constructed in the open making sure that there are no trees, fences or buildings etc where the fire could spread
- Take into account the wind direction, making sure that the fire does not affect residential areas, roads or access points
- Have first aid facilities available, including a burn pack.
If you require any further information, please contact your local fire station.
