How the ESOL Presentation Works?

The ESOL Fire Safety Presentation has been designed to be delivered to groups of ESOL students however it could also be used in a variety of delivery situations and settings. For example, with people for which English is their first language but who learn more effectively through visual and verbal ways.

The group size for the ESOL Presentation can vary and the lead adult should liaise closely with the person who will be delivering the session to ensure that the learners gain the maximum benefit. A group that is too large for example may provide fewer opportunities for close knit and personalised discussion.

The presentation focuses on the following themes -

• Introduction and the role of the Fire Service
• Who is at risk from fire?
• The dangers of fire
• How to identify and reduce fire risks at home
• What to do in the event of a fire?
• Reporting a fire – role play activity
• The Bedtime Routine
• Home Fire Safety Checks

The presentation also has an evaluation or feedback process for both the learners and the group leader.

After the Session

At the end of the session each learner can be given to take home –

• a Home Fire Safety Check Leaflet or Multilingual equivalent
