• giving them an introduction to the Fire and Rescue Service
• giving them an introduction to fire safety awareness
• generating a basic understanding of the actions to be taken in the event of a fire
It is a commonly held understanding that a lesson learnt early in life is likely to stay with that person for life and that young children are particularly impressionable. Teaching young children about fire safety and introducing them to the Fire and Rescue Service in a positive light gives them a good grounding for their own lives and also allows the messages to be passed on to their immediate families. As a result Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) sees it as vital that pre-school children (and new starters) are given the opportunity to receive appropriate fire safety education delivered in memorable and easy to understand ways.
Many requests are made for the Fire and Rescue Service to attend nurseries and pre-school groups with a fire appliance. Although we will make every effort to support such events where resources permit, it is not always possible. As an alternative, or in addition to a visit from staff, we provide a resource box for nurseries and pre-school groups which can help to educate young people in their early learning years in fire safety awareness and to give them an introduction to the Fire and Rescue Service.
We would like to receive your feedback about our EYFS Education Programme. If you have had some input from LFRS or you have any comments about the service we offer please send your thoughts to Carmella Gildert at carmellagildert@lancsfirerescue.org.uk.
