Most fires in the home start accidentally and the consequences can be devastating. Take some simple steps to protect your home, yourself, and your loved ones.
Make sure that you have at least one working smoke alarm in your property and check it regularly to ensure it is still working properly.
Know your escape plan should a fire occur. Consider a plan B too and if you have guest or visitors staying over, talk it over with them as well. You never know when a fire might accidentally break out.
Take pans off the hob or turn down the heat if you get distracted or called away from the cooker and keep combustible items a safe distance away from the heat source.
Keep portable heaters at least one metre away from furniture and other flammable items.
Don’t overload extension leads or adapters and check wires to ensure they are in good working order.
Put cigarettes out carefully before going to bed.
