Aim
The aim of the scheme is to deliver an educational programme to children and young people who have developed a fascination with fire and who are exposing themselves and others to risk, or who have been found guilty of a fire related crime in which case the aim is to prevent re-offending. In broad terms the scheme is utilised to protect life and property and/or eliminate further fire setting and anti-social behaviour.The FIRE Scheme (FIRES) forms part of a range of activities that Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service deliver in respect of our engagement with children and young people. Collectively; these activities are referred to as Developing Young People. It is expected that all young people referred to the scheme will be visited in the most expeditious way.Outline of the SchemeThe child or young person will undergo an individual education plan, which will increase their awareness of the following subjects:

- The dangers of fire;
- The consequences of fire and their behaviour both in human and financial terms;
- Basic fire safety.
Who is the Scheme aimed at?
The programme is aimed at children and young people between the ages of 4 and 17 years old, who are known or are suspected of playing with fire, or who have committed hoax calls, arson or attacks on fire service staff.
How to make a referral?
Referrals may be received from a variety of sources including the following:
- Parents/guardians
- Fire and Rescue Service
- Police
- Schools
- Doctors
- Social Services/Health Visitors
- Group Intervention Panels (GRIP)
- Other organisation
Organisations and parent/guardians can make referrals via Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service website – forms are available for download and can be emailed to fires@lancsfirerescue.org.uk.
