Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service has joined forces with the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) to create a three year degree course set to provide students an opportunity to fulfil their potential within Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service.

The course is the BSc in Fire and Leadership studies, which will focus on:-

• the science of combustion and fire
• community fire safety
• fire safety management and legislation
• fire investigation
• management of occupational health and safety
• fire risk management
• law
• human resources
• business and management practice
• Fire and Rescue Service management
• leadership skills

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service will be sponsoring three places on the course each year. The sponsorship, which is open to all students, will guarantee the graduate a job at the end of the degree and it will give the students the possibility of becoming a retained firefighter whilst still learning. Students wishing to apply for the scolarship will only be able to do so, once they have obtained a place on the course. Further information regarding the sponsorship will be available soon.

The course will begin in September 2009 and enrolment is invited this year through the University and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) at www.ucas.ac.uk.
