For Pete's Sake JakeA key element of CHILDSAFE at Year 6 is the booklet ‘For Pete’s Sake Jake’!’ (to view the document please click on the link) which takes pupils on Jake’s journey of discovery as Jake learns all about fire safety issues, including the perils associated with hoax calls and deliberate fire-setting. It can be used as the basis for a complete module of work comprising seven sessions covering: 1. Fire and its Causes 2. Consequences of Fire 3. Fire Safety in the Home 4. Making a Fire Plan 5. Consequences of Deliberate Fire Setting 6. Hoax Calls 7. Making Choices When used in its entirety it provides opportunities for pupils to develop much of the required knowledge, skills and understanding not only relating to fire safety but the wider PSHE curriculum. Use of the booklet can be flexible. It might be delivered in its entirety over seven sessions or teachers might choose to focus only on those areas that they see as being most beneficial according to an individual school’s priorities.
