Partnership Working

Working in partnership, with organisations such as local authorities or the police, is playing an increasingly important role in how we deliver our service in Lancashire.

Our approach to partnership working involves seeking objectives which are common to partners in other organisations within the public, private and voluntary sector. By helping reduce accidental fires in the home, we can then help to improve home safety; if we can help reduce arson and deliberate fires set by young people, that also helps to deal with anti-social behaviour and discourage children and young people from `risk taking behaviour`.

The Crime and Disorder Act requires local authorities the police and fire service to work together – with other agencies – to draw up a strategy to reduce crime and disorder, in consultation with the local community. Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service is an active partner in all 14 Community Safety Partnerships within the County and our work in these partnerships has led to may successful initiatives such as the one week Fire Awareness Child Education course (FLARE). which is aimed at young offenders.

Both the unitary councils of Blackpool and Blackburn with Darwen and Lancashire County Council have developed Local Area Agreements that recognise and incorporate our community safety objectives for reducing fire related anti-social behaviour.

Dealing with electric fires - never fill a chip pan more than a third full of oil - only tackle a fire if it is in its early stages and you feel it is safe to do so - have a clear escape route
