Young Offenders Arson Program

The arson programme has been developed by Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service with the aim of preventing young people between the ages of 10 to 17 who have admitted or been found guilty of a crime involving fire, such as arson or criminal damage, from re-offending.

The program is collaboration between Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service and other agencies such as Youth Offending Teams, Social Services, Parents, Schools, Health Authorities, Police or the Courts.

Those referred under the scheme will undergo an individual education plan, which is designed to increase their awareness of subjects such as the dangers and consequences of fire, both in human and financial terms as well as basic fire safety.

Experienced Fire Service Officers in the presence of a Youth Offender Team Worker, Teacher, or other appropriate adult deliver the programme.

The number of sessions will vary dependant on the type of referral and the assessment of the young person.

The sessions are held on Youth Offending Team or School premises and will be tailored to meet the needs of the particular young person.
