Celebrating Young People

Celebrating Young People Awards 2008

Due to the success of last year’s “Celebration of Young People Awards’ event and as part of this year’s Summer Nights campaign, the awards will be held again this year.  There will be seven categories to choose from and this year the High Sheriff of Lancashire, Colonel Alan Jolley will be supporting one of them.

The scheme is open to all children and young people up to the age of 18 who live in Lancashire and who deserve recognition for their efforts and who have demonstrated a real commitment and energy to their cause.  Do you know a young person who goes that extra mile to help make their community a better place to live? Have you got your very own ‘unsung community hero’ just waiting to be rewarded? Do you think they should be recognised for their efforts? If the answer is ‘Yes’ and they are under 18 years old and live in Lancashire then enter them for a Summer Nights ‘Celebration of Young People Award’ and help them get the credit they deserve.

Young people often feel singled out and blamed for anti-social behaviour so again this year, the SN campaign, is placing a strong emphasis on how we can celebrate young people from all communities and walks of life who are contributing to making Lancashire a safer place, who may have committed acts of bravery or who have successfully turned their lives around. It’s about being positive about young people for a change and giving them a platform to shout about their achievements and their lives.

We know that in every community in Lancashire there are young people who go that extra mile for others and inspire those around them. The aim is to recognise the commitment, energy and enthusiasm of these young people.

We need your help!

The awards will be launched on-line and a press release issued today, these documents will be accessible via the links below by the end of the day.  Awards poster and nomination forms are currently being printed and you will receive copies in the post in due course, if you would like further copies please let me know.  It is important that Youth Involvement Officers promote the Celebrating Young People Awards to increase awareness of the initiative and encourage as many nominations as possible.

For further information you can contact Melanie Pickard 01772 412824 or the awards team for more information via email celebratingyoungpeople@lancashire.pnn.police.uk.

The closing date for nominations is 31st July 2008.  Please get in touch if you would like nomination packs or awards posters.

Please could you communicate information about the awards and ways to nominate to all community organisations and other staff members, in particular those who work with young people such as Neighbourhood Policing Teams. If you would prefer that we come and speak to a group of staff in your organisation about the awards please get in touch.
