Member ChampionsIn September 2007 the Authority introduced the role of Member Champions to champion areas of: Equality and Diversity; Older People and the Environment.
At the Authority meeting in July 2009 nominations to the Champion roles were approved as follows:
Equality and Diversity – Councillor George Adam
Older People – Councillor Jimmy Eaton
Environment – Councillor Shelagh Derwent
Member Champions take an active interest in the area in which they champion. They ensure issues are taken into account in the preparation of key plans and during the decision-making process. Champions engage with other Members, relevant community groups, partners and staff to promote awareness and seek views.
They hold a small budget and work closely with senior officers to support the area in which they champion.
