County Councillor Keith Young received a Home Fire Safety Check from firefighters from Penwortham Fire Station this morning. Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service’s Training Centre employees have raised more than £3000 for charity following the Bonfire and Firework Display that took place at Washington Hall on Bonfire Night. The annual bonfire was well attended this year and Washington Hall’s Welfare Committee decided to split the profits between two charities; The Legacy Rainbow House which received £1,300 and The Fire Fighters Charity who were given £1,854.25. On Wednesday afternoon, four children from South Ribble were each presented with £50 Argos vouchers after they won a poster competition that was launched by the Safer Chorley and South Ribble Partnership. Jessica Prosper, Liam Foster Raynor, Courtney Preston and James Shenton won after their fire safety posters were chosen by Leyland firefighters as being the best out of the many designs that were entered into the competition. On Wednesday 14th December, motorway stations throughout the north-west will be the focus of a driver safety awareness exercise which has been launched by the North-West Chief Fire Officers Association Partnership. Stationed at service stations throughout the region, firefighters and community fire safety practitioners will offer drivers taking a break motorway driving safety tips, including the key safety messages about keeping safe on the roads in the winter. Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service is seeking Expressions of Interest in respect of a Framework Agreement for the provision of Prince’s Trust teambuilding, residential activity programmes for young adults aged between 16 – 25 years old. A senior fire officer has praised firefighters from Barnoldswick, Earby and Colne who attended a house fire in Barnoldswick earlier this month for their “prompt actions and highly professional manner at a dynamic and challenging incident.” At 2.05am, Friday 4th November 2011 a fridge freezer in the kitchen of a terraced house developed a fault that started a fire while the couple living there were asleep. On 11th November, firefighters from Darwen hosted a fire safety event at Darwen Market, on Croft Street from 10:00 until 15:00. With Friday being Remembrance Day, the firefighters took part in a short service and two minutes silence in front of the market to commemorate the armed forces who have died in battle since World War 1. Last Wednesday, the Director of Fire, Resilience and Emergencies Directorate Mr Neil O’Connor spent the day with Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service. Mr O’Connor visited the County to find out more about how the Service operates and to see some of the many new initiatives that have been launched over the last couple of years. On the 23rd September last year, Lancashire Fire and Rescue fire safety specialists were alerted to possible fire hazards in upper storey flats at 16 Lune Street Preston. They visited the premises and identified a number of breaches of fire safety legislation, to the extent that they judged that the premises were so dangerous that people living there would be in grave danger in the event of fire breaking out. Over the last two months, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service has raised in excess of £2,500 for The Fire Fighters Charity. In September, thirteen firefighters completed a ladder climb at Deepdale Retail Park. The event was been inspired by the 10 year anniversary of the terror attacks of 9/11, where hundreds of firefighters lost their lives. To complete the challenge, the firefighters had to climb the 13.5 metre ladder 911 times in full fire kit.
