Domestic abuse is any kind of threatening behaviour, violence or abuse which takes place between adults who are family members or partners (including ex-partners).
Domestic abuse can happen to anyone and its effects can be devastating. But help is available. Contact the Domestic Violence Helpline on 0808 2000 247. In an emergency call 999. if you are not in any immediate danger call the police non-emergency number on 0845 25 35 45. Sometimes people who are involved in an abusive relationship may also be at greater risk of fire, where the abuser uses fire as a weapon against them. Where the police feel that this may be a risk, they will contact the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service and we will immediately carry out a different type of Home Fire Safety Check which provides additional protective measures and advice over and above the usual package. If you feel you are in danger of fire being used as a weapon against you, contact the police urgently.
