When taking drugs you are more at risk from fire. Drugs can make you sleepy and will affect the way act if there is a fire – you may have a false feeling of safety. If a fire happens you may not even see the danger!
- Try not to use alone.
- Cook-up on a solid surface like a table, not on newspapers or soft furniture.
- Put candles in a proper holder, tea lights on a plate and do not leave the room when they are lit.
- Only use alcohol swabs to clean your skin, not to cook with.
- Some drugs make you hungry – don’t cook food if you are drowsy.
- Make sure all cigarettes, joints or candles are properly put out when you go to bed.
- Have a working smoke alarm installed, as this will greatly increase the chances of escaping if fire breaks out in the home.
- Call 0800 1691125 to arrange a free home fire safety check, including free fitting of smoke alarms and help to plan an escape route
- Check your smoke alarms using the test facility once a week.
