Blackpool Tower building fire

Date: 07/03/2018

Time: 12:39:00

Address: Blackpool Promenade

Incident Number: 1803002398

Firefighters were called to reports of a fire on the roof of one of the Tower buildings at 12:39hrs. Crews from Blackpool, Bispham, Fleetwood, wesham and St Annes are in attendance alongside Preston’s Aerial Ladder Platform. Six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are currently using two hose reels to tackle the fire, which is believed to be located in between the fourth and fifth floor. The people being held at the top of the tower are currently still there and will be kept there until it is safe to bring them down.

By 5pm, the fire had been extinguished and the people held at the top of the tower for their own safety had been released.  Two fire engines remained at the scene overnight and by Thursday morning, we had come away from the site and handed control back to the site owners. The fire investigation has indicated that hot works taking place on the roof had been the cause of the fire.

No injuries were reported.
