Derelict building fire in Blackpool

Update on 28 April: Twelve fire engines, two aerial ladder platforms, one stinger and the drone team attended a four storey derelict building fire on Queens Promenade, Blackpool. Firefighters used eight breathing apparatus, four jets and two positive pressure ventilation units to bring the fire under control. Firefighters were in attendance for an extended period of time.

 

Twelve fire engines, two aerial ladder platforms, one stinger and the drone team are in attendance at a four storey derelict building fire on Queens Promenade, Blackpool. Firefighters are wearing breathing apparatus and using four jets to bring the fire under control. Firefighting operations are still underway.

Several road closures are in place – Queens Promenade (in both directions), Gynn Avenue (in both directions), and Dickson Road (North bound). Trams have been stopped.

If you can see or smell smoke, close windows and doors. Please stay away from the area.

We are working with Lancashire Police, Blackpool Council and other partners in a multi-agency response to this incident.

Update at 21:22: crews will be working overnight. Road closures remain in place.

Update at 08:23 on 25 April: we have reduced the fire appliances to 6 fire engines and 2 aerial ladder platforms. Fire crews will remain on scene over the course of the day and probably into tomorrow morning. Trams are not running from Talbot Square to Fleetwood. Please continue to avoid the area where possible.

Update at 16:18 on 25 April: Fire crews continue damping down remaining hotspots. There are 2 fire appliances and 1 aerial ladder platform in attendance, however, this will shortly be scaled down to 1 fire appliance.

Update at 21:30 on 25 April: There is 1 fire appliance and 1 aerial ladder platform in attendance. Crews will remain on scene overnight.
