Four fire engines from Lancaster, Morecambe and Bolton-le-Sands attended a fire in an external staircase of a two storey block of flats on Balmoral Road in Heysham. Firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus used three hose reels and a portable ventilation unit to extinguish the fire and clear the smoke. There were no casualties. The fire was of suspicious origin and a joint investigation with Lancashire Police is now underway.
