At 18:07 eight fire engines from Manchester and Lancashire along with two Stinger appliances, aerial ladder platform were called to a fire at a commercial premises on Huyton Road, Chorley. The property is a single storey warehouse building which was well alight measuring 50m x 20m that processed raw fabrics. Firefighters are using the two Stingers and aerial ladder platform to get water onto the fire from above along with three major pumps.
There is a lot of smoke in the area and local residents are asked to keep windows and doors closed as a precaution.
Firefighters are using the special appliances, hand held pumps and the high volume pumps to work to extinguish the fire. All persons were accounted for and no injuries were reported. A further aerial ladder platform is now at the scene.
UPDATE 00:44 – several fire appliances will remain at the incident overnight and into the following day to work to extinguish the fire. Firefighters are working alongside colleague from United Utilities and the Environment Agency.
UPDATE 02/04 07:00 – four fire engines from Lancashire along with one aerial ladder platform and support pumps remain at the scene. The majority of the fire has been extinguished however crews are still putting water on hot spot areas and small pockets of fire. The crew will be at the incident for some time working with the local authority and plant company to demolish the building safely whilst extinguishing all remaining hot spots. The building was completely destroyed by fire. The advice remains the same to residents to stay away from the area and keep windows and doors closed as there is still some light smoke in the area.
UPDATE 02/04 17:57 – crews have remained at the scene throughout the day. The demolation company and plant machinary are now onsite working to demolish the building safely. Firefighters will remain onsite throughout the night and into the following day (03/04).
