Firefighters were called to reports of a fire in a commercial premises just off Market Street, Adlington, Chorley. When firefighters arrived they found a well developed fire in part of the building which is believed to be a storage building approximately 50m x 75m, although the building is part of a larger multi-occupancy site. Crews quickly requested further fire engines for support and currently (at 04:16hrs) there are 12 fire appliances at the scene along with 2 Aerial Ladder Platforms (ALP) and the Stinger unit. Crews are placed at strategic points around the permitter of the fire and are using water towers and jets to bring the fire under control. Fire crews in attendance are from both Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.
There were approximately 20 local residents that have had to be evacuated from their homes as a precaution and they are currently being looked after in a nearby pub. The smoke plume from the fire has reduced significantly, however those residences in the locality of the fire are advised to keep their windows and doors closed as a precaution. The incident is still ongoing and updates will be provided when further information is available.
Update: 07:00hrs The number of fire appliances at the scene of the fire has been reduced to six fire engines plus the three specialist appliances, the ALP and the Stinger aerial unit. The fire is under control however crews are likely to remain in attendance at the incident for the majority of the day. At this time the cause of the fire is not known, however a full, joint investigation will begin as soon as it is safe enough to conduct investigations thoroughly. People living in the locality of Market Street and Park Rd should be advised that there are traffic management measure currently in place around the incident ground. Train lines are not affected at this time.
Update 12:00hrs The number of fire appliances at the scene of the fire has reduced to five fire engines plus the two ALP and Stinger appliances and crews are dampening down. The drone has just undertaken an aerial flight of the incident ground to assess for hot spots.
Update 12:30hrs The number of fire appliances has been reduced to four fire appliances plus the special appliances.
