At 12:22am on 20th May 2021, eight fire engines, a stinger, an aerial ladder platform and a drone attended an incident at a commercial property and a number of flats on Towngate, Leyland. The fire involved five commercial properties was well alight on arrival. Eight casualties suffering the effects of smoke inhalation were assessed by North West Ambulance Service, with one of the casualties being transported to hospital. Firefighters used four breathing apparatus, three hose reels and one main jet to extinguish the fire. Incident is still ongoing and crews remain in attendance.
Update 03:53am – The incident has been reduced down to six fire engines. The road is still closed and will remain closed into the morning.
Update 10:36am – The road remains closed. Fire service personnel are at the scene while the incident is investigated.
