At 22:22 seven fire engines from Preston, Penwortham, Bamber Bridge, Longridge, Leyland and Fulwood as well as the Stinger from Blackburn and Aerial Ladder Platform Hyndburn were called to a fire at a recycling centre on Longridge Road, Preston. There is a lot of smoke in the area and residents are advised to remain indoors and keep windows and doors closed.
The fire site measured 50m x 50m and was mainly involving recycling material from road vehicles.
There is currently a road closure in place being controlled by Lancashire Police.
Update 01:56 – firefighters are expected to be at the site throughout the night and into the morning
Update 08:20 on 31/08 – the incident has now been reduced to five engines plus specials however we are likely to be at the site throughout the day therefore the road and Guild Wheel will remain closed during this time.
Update 12:48 on 31/08 – the incident has been scaled back to four fire engines and one special. The road has now been reopened however there is still a lot of smoke in the area therefore we advise local residents to continue to keep their windows and doors closed.
Update 17:36 on 31/08 – damping down complete. One fire engine and one ALP will remain on-site overnight until 01/09
