At 20:12hrs, four fire crews from Bamber Bridge, Preston and Penwortham responded to reports of a fire on Brierley Road in Bamber Bridge. The fire involved a commercial premises, approximately 90m by 50m and was well alight when crews arrived. Four additional crews were requested, including two aerial ladder platforms. There is a large smoke plume being produced by the fire, and local residents in the vicinity are advised to close any windows and doors as a precaution. Some road diversions are also in place, so please try and avoid the area if possible. There was one casualty reported to have received burns injuries. They were assessed by paramedics at the scene and transferred to hospital for treatment. Further updates to follow.
Firefighters are working to bring the fire under control using two ALPS and the Stinger, four firefighters are also using breathing apparatus and two hose reels in one sector. At approximately 23:00hrs, an additional two pumps were requested, bringing the total to 10 fire engines.
Update 01:00hrs. Crews have surrounded the fire using 2 Stingers, 2 ALPs and four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus. The fire was contained within the building and overnight four fire engines and one ALP will remain in attendance damping down the scene into the early hours of the morning. Investigations into the cause of the fire will begin as soon as possible.
