Derelict hotel fire in Blackpool

Date: 10/01/2018

Time: 20:16:00

Address: Promenade, Blackpool

Incident Number: 1801002931

10 fire engines and specialist appliances from Blackpool, South Shore, Bispham, St Annes, Lytham, Wesham, Fleetwood, Penwortham, Preston and Fulwood were called to a fire in a derelict hotel on the Promenade in Blackpool at 20:16. When firefighters arrived at the scene, the top floor of the six storey hotel was well alight and firefighters used jets and the aerial ladder platform from Blackpool to extinguish the fire. Around 60 firefighters were at the scene during the height of the incident and once the fire was out, they began searching the property to see if people were inside. No people were found inside the building. Whilst the fire was still burning, residents of a neighbouring hotel were evacuated and moved to a safer accommodation. The fire also resulted in the Promenade and the tram network being closed, however, by 00:30 one fire engine was left at the scene and it is hoped both the road and tram network will re-open again shortly. The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
