Fire on the Promenade in Blackpool

Firefighters from Blackpool, South Shore and Bispham were called to reports of a fire at Central Pier, Promenade, Blackpool in the early hours. On arrival firefighters requested further assistance, with an additional 8 fire engines being called to attend along with the Command Support Unit from Fulwood and Aerial Support Unit. Firefighters found a building and pleasure ride on the pier well alight on arrival which they quickly brought under control using hose reel jets. Firefighters are currently still in attendance.

Update: 08:00hrs this incident has now been reduced to three fire engines. Crews will remain to monitor for any hotspots and damp down. An investigation into the cause of the fire will begin as soon as possible. The earlier road closures in place are now being lifted.

Update 10:34hrs – This incident has been further scaled down to two fire engines.

Update: July 18 – Fire crews were reduced to one at 18:00hrs (July 17) with crews coming away from the scene at 22:00hrs pending a re-inspection first thing on July 18. This re-inspection has now taken place and the incident has now been handed back over to the site owners. Firefighters have now closed the incident however investigations are still ongoing and early indications suggest that it is highly likely the cause was accidental.
