Three fire engines and crews (two from Preston and one from Penwortham) responded to a fire in a ground floor flat, where a pan had been left on a cooker hob. The fire had not spread and had self-extinguished on arrival of firefighters but a lot of smoke had been generated and the occupant was rescued from the smoke-logged flat by firefighters. The casualty was attended to by ambulance paramedics but he was not hospitalised.
