Firefighters from Fulwood, and Bamber Bridge attended a road traffic collision on the M6 motorway, northbound carriageway involving a HGV and one car near the junction 31A. Crews at the scene found that the HGV was on its side and blocking three lanes of the motorway. The driver of the vehicle was still in the cab and being assessed by paramedics. The driver from the car had got free from there vehicle and was also being assessed by paramedics at the scene. Firefighters used holmatro cutting equipment to release the casualty from the HGV cab, who was then taken to hospital by ambulance crews. Airbags were also in use for stabilisation. Firefighters remained at the scene for approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes.
