Date: 03/03/2019

Time: 18:29:00

Address: West Moss Lane, Westby with Plumptons

Incident Number: 1903000740

Two adjacent barns, one of 60 X 20 metres floorplan, the other 30 X 15 metres are on fire at farm premises. Fire engines and crews from St Annes, South Shore, Lytham, Blackpool (2), Wesham and a Command Support Unit and fire engine and crews from Fulwood have been assigned to the incident. The number of fire engines is to facilitate a water relay from a remote water source – where an engine pumps water from the source to the next appliance, then to the next and so on until at the head of the chain firefighters have water to fight the fire, using two main jets in this case.

No casualties are reported and the cause of the fire is to be established. Updates will be posted when additional information is available.

Update at 8.30pm: gas cylinders on site have been moved to a safe location away from the fire. The barns contain straw.

Update at 10pm: firefighters will be dealing with this fire for some hours yet. Steady progress is being made.

Update 7.30am Monday 4th March: the fire had been reduced to smouldering pockets of fire by late evening, extinguished by firefighters as they went over the ground. One fire engine and crew remained on site to keep watch and ensure that no residual burning remained.
