Tyre-d of lockdown challenge!

FF Shaw from Chorley Fire Station will be taking on a tyre flip challenge on Tuesday 12 May to raise money for The Fire Fighters Charity.

The charity relies heavily on donations to fund all the incredible work they do both remotely and at their rehab centres across the country, but with the Coronavirus their usual fundraising efforts have been cancelled.

Jakob Shaw is an on-call firefighter based at Chorley Fire Station and decided to give his mind and body a challenge amid lockdown. He has proposed to flip a tyre as many times as people like his post on Instagram!

The post promoting his tyre flip challenge will be posting on the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service Instagram page on Friday 8 May and whoever ‘likes’ the post between 12noon on the Friday until 12noon on the Monday will be the number of times Jakob will flip the tyre. If you are able to donate just £2 when you like the post it will go a long way towards helping the charity.

The tyre is 5ft high and weighs approximately 70kg so this challenge will be a physical and mental test whether he has to complete 50 flips or 500!

Jakob said; “The charity is really important to myself and my colleagues and even during lockdown has been providing some wellbeing talks and mindful body scan sessions that Lancashire colleagues can get involved in with their families to help during this time. This challenge isn’t going to be easy but if people are happy to donate to my tyre flips it will go a long way to supporting the charity when their usual fundraising events have been cancelled.”

When not on-call for Chorley Fire Station, Jakob works night shifts at the Astley Village Tesco store so between these two jobs he has been keeping busy.

On-call firefighters respond to incidents after being alerted via their pager so often live or work within five minutes from a Fire Station. On-call recruitment is currently live on the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service careers page with vacancies across the county.
