At 15:04 crews were called to a fire in a waste disposal/recycling centre on Goose House Lane in Darwen. Crews attended from Darwen, Bamber Bridge, Preston, Blackburn and two fire engines from Hyndburn including the Aerial ladder platform.

The fire was contained in a building measuring approximately 10×10 metres and contained approximately 350 tonnes of waste. Crews worked hard to ensure the fire didn’t spread to the nearby wood pile and other buildings.

The air support unit was in attendance to provide guidance to the Aerial ladder platform and crews

UPDATE 17:45 approximately 160,000 litres of water had been used to extinguish the fire. Residents and people nearby are advised to keep their windows and doors closed due to the light breeze (7.4 miles per hour) and the large plume of smoke.

Crews are still in attendance and the cause of the fire is currently unknown.

UPDATE 18:13 three fire engines remain at the scene including the Aerial ladder platform

UPDATE 18:55 night crews are now in attendance to continue the dampening down of the incident and ensure the scene is safe

UPDATE 20:30 Incident located confirmed as Suez waste managment on Lower Eccelshill Road. Excavator removing waste and continue in to dampen down

UPDATE 21:07 crews used a commercial digger, hose reel jet and alp to continue to dampen down the fire. Crews will remain at the incident overnight
