Two fire engines and an aerial ladder platform will remain at the incident over the weekend.

Firefighters are working in conjunction with controlled demolition of the building to extinguish remaining hot spots, conduct searches and make the area safe.

We have reduced the cordon around the site opening up access where possible however access is still restricted in some areas.

We continue to work with partner agencies to minimise disruption to residents and businesses.

Five fire engines and one aerial ladder platform remain on scene. They are working to make the scene safe and demolition work is in progress.

Overnight, the number of appliances will be reduced and work will resume on Saturday 21st May.

Road closures remain in place and continue over the weekend. We are working closely with partners agencies to minimise disruptions to residents and businesses.

Six fire engines, Urban Search and Rescue teams and one aerial ladder platform remain on scene. They are working to make the scene safe, conduct searches and preserve the scene for the fire investigation.

No injuries have been reported and the search dogs have been searching the building. A multi-agency fire investigation is underway.

Road closures are still in place and the area is also closed to pedestrians. This will continue in to the weekend and we advise the public to avoid the area.

Eight fire engines and one aerial ladder platform remain at this incident. The fire has been brought under control however firefighting operations continue.

Road closures remain in place. This is expected to cause disruption to the city centre this morning, so please avoid the area.


12 fire engines from Preston, Bamber Bridge, Fulwood, Wesham, Leyland, South Shore, Blackpool, Great Harwood, Hyndburn, Penwortham and Tarleton; two aerial ladders platforms from Preston and Blackpool; the air support unit; and a command support unit from Blackburn are in attendance at a large building fire on Church Street in Preston.

The building is partly derelict with some parts also used for commercial purposes. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are using hose reels and ground monitors to bring the fire under control. We are working with Lancashire Police, Preston City Council and other partners in a multi-agency response to the incident.

Road closures are in place and crews are expected to remain in attendance overnight. Please avoid the area and keep your windows and doors closed if you are affected by smoke.
