Summary

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service operates a press office during office hours to support journalists with media enquiries.

Enquiries from the public or journalists/researchers looking for statistics about fires or other non-fire activity such as finance or personnel matters should submit a Freedom Of Information (FOI) request to the Service.

Incidents

All incidents deemed by the team to be noteworthy or relevant to the public (for warning and informing purposes) are uploaded to our website.

Should the incident be a protracted incident the team will update information as further details become available.

In certain circumstances press officers may attend incidents and will be able to facilitate interviews. However, where possible, we will publish incident information on our website and Facebook channels, which journalists are welcome to use and share.

Press officers can provide information including the type of incident, the time of the initial call, the number of fire engines and resources in attendance, and general details of our response.

We are not able to give out details such as specific location or house number, age and gender of casualties and vehicle details.

To protect privacy and support any ongoing investigations, we may also be unable to provide other sensitive operational information.

In some instances we may not be able to answer your questions on topics such as the status of casualties. In these situations, we may direct you to our colleagues at Lancashire Constabulary or NWAS instead

In most cases, the information published on our website represents all the details we are able to confirm at that time.

Major incidents

Details of major incidents will be published on the incident page of the website and social media accounts and will be updated regularly, as more information becomes available.

During significant incidents, our priority is to support operational activity while keeping communities informed through accurate and timely updates.

We ask people with drones not to fly them at this time as this can impede our firefighting operations and may put emergency responders at risk.

Press releases

Press releases and stories can be read on our website. You can also find information about our campaigns, community safety initiatives and other Service news.

Contact us

The team can be contacted via emailing communications@lancsfirerescue.org.uk. Please note that this account is not monitored 24/7.

  • On evenings and weekends the team will only respond in relation to major incidents.

  • You may also use the contact form selecting journalist in the dropdown menu.

  • For information on our current or upcoming campaigns/interview requests/film requests or anything else please email us at communications@lancsfirerescue.org.uk.

Journalists are encouraged to monitor our website and social media channels for the latest incident information, as these channels are often updated before individual enquiries can be answered.

Out of office hours

We provide a press office function out of office hours for major incidents only however details of other incidents of note are published on our website and Facebook account.

Fire investigations

All fires are assessed and, where appropriate, investigated to determine their origin and cause.

We do not speculate on the cause of a fire. Causes are only confirmed once a formal investigation has been completed.

While an investigation is ongoing, we will be unable to comment on potential causes or contributing factors.

Where a fire is suspected to be deliberate, involves fatalities or forms part of a criminal investigation, Lancashire Constabulary may take the lead on communications relating to the investigation.

Where appropriate, information about confirmed fire causes may be published on our website or provided in response to media enquiries once investigations have concluded.

Social media

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service maintains an active presence across several social media platforms. You can connect with us on:

Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn , TikTok, Nextdoor, YouTube

In addition to our main account we also have associated profiles, including our fire search dogs and accounts for most of our stations.

To ensure our online spaces remain respectful and constructive, we follow a set of social media house rules. These outline how we respond to different types of comments and posts.

We encourage members of the public and media to follow our channels for incident updates, safety advice and Service news.
