At 04:14 on 23rd January, twelve fire engines from Chorley, Preston, Fulwood, Penwortham, Blackburn, Darwen, Leyland, Bamber Bridge, and Skelmersdale – supported by one fire engine from Greater Manchester and several specialist appliances – attended a fire at a single storey, derelict, commercial building. The incident was located on George Street, Chorley. Firefighters used four breathing apparatus, three hose reel jets and an aerial ladder platform to bring the fire under control. One casualty was rescued and received precautionary checks from NWAS personnel.
A fire investigation is underway, with crews remaining in attendance at this time.
Update 07:00 – firefighters with breathing apparatus have now been withdrawn while external firefighting continues using specialist equipment.
Update 09:48 – this incident is now being scaled back to eight fire engines, supported by a specialist stinger appliance, an aerial ladder platform and a command support unit.
