Commercial Building Fire in Eccleston

Fire crews from Penwortham, Chorley, Leyland and Bamber Bridge were called to reports of a fire at a commercial premise on Towngate, Eccleston. Shortly after the crews arrived they increased the number of fire engines to eight. The fire involved a single storey industrial farm building approximately 50m by 40m which contained cylinders. Firefighters have sectorised the incident and are tackling the fire using ground monitors. The arial support unit is also currently in attendance assisting with firefighting operations.


Update:19:30 – Firefighters are still working to extinguish the fire however it is believed there is now no longer any further concerns about the cylinders that are contained inside the building.Fire crews are likely to remain in attendance into the evening ensuring that the fire is fully extinguished and monitoring any hot spots. A fire investigation will be carried out as soon as it is safe to do so.


Update: 21:50hrs

Firefighting operations will be continuing overnight as firefighters monitor the fire ground for any remaining hot spots. The number of fire engines at the scene will shortly be reducing down to one fire engine. Any residents in the locality that may have been affected by the smoke plume and had closed their widows and doors are advised they can now reopen them.

Update: 13:30hrs – 25/08/19

The fire has now been fully extinguished and the scene of the fire was assessed by officers and the site owners this morning (25/08). All fire engines have now left the scene and the investigation into the cause of the fire has now begun.
