Two fire engines from Skelmersdale were called to reports of a fire on Sandy Lane, Skelmersdale in the early hours of the morning (11 December 2019). Upon arrival they found the incident involved a fault on a high voltage electricity line which was having an impact on approximately 350 properties. Firefighters found the incident involved a small explosion in an underground electricity box which was contained to the area of origin and they requested support from Electricity Northwest. Firefighters made the scene safe and monitored the incident using a thermal imaging camera and gas detector before handing the incident over to Electricity Northwest teams. Crews were in attendance approximately one hour and fifty minutes.
