Firefighters were called to reports of a grass fire in Rivington at 16:48hrs after smoke was seen in the area. Initially 7 fire crews were in attendance including Bamber Bridge, Darwen, Leyland, Rawtenstall’s soft track and wildfire unit and crews from Greater Manchester along with the LFRS Aerial Support Unit. The fire was sectorised so that fire crews could tackle the fire and prevent the fire from spreading further. Equipment in use included the soft track and air blowers. At 21:05hrs sector two had been extinguished and the remaining efforts are now focused on fully extinguishing the forefront in sector one. Mountain Rescue teams and United Utilities were also in attendance assisting crews.
Incident update: 22:06hrs The incident has now been reduced to one pump who will remain there checking for hotspots and damping down.
