A training exercise took place this morning based on a flat at Sandown Court, Avenham, Preston. Two fire engines and crews from Preston and engines and crews from Longridge, Wesham, Colne and Hornby took part.
The exercise scenario involved discharging ‘cosmetic’ smoke in a vacant flat to simulate a fire and local residents, or passers-by, were reassured that there was not an actual fire incident in progress.
Firefighters ensured that residents in Sandown Court were not inconvenienced and they were of course be able to come and go as they wished during the exercise.
Conducting exercises of this sort from time to time throughout Lancashire ensures that the capacity of firefighters to respond to real emergencies is maximised and with it, public safety at times of need is assured.
