Retained fire stations throughout Lancashire are recruiting new retained firefighters this month. Retained firefighters often have another job and they will provide on-call cover from home or their place of work. They respond to emergencies when their pager alerts them, so must live or work within five minutes travel time from the station.

The following stations are currently recruiting:

Garstang, Carnforth, Silverdale, Hornby, Fleetwood, Preesall, Wesham, Lytham, Bacup, Haslingden, Chorley, Barnoldswick, Earby, Bamber Bridge, Darwen, Morecambe, Hyndburn, Nelson, Skelmersdale, Bolton-le-Sands, Tarleton, St Annes, Longridge, Ormksirk, Colne, Rawtenstall, Lancaster, Clitheroe and Padiham.

Firefighters must be 18 years of age when they join, but this should not dissuade 17-year-olds from registering their interest and they should have permission from their current employer and maintain a reasonable standard of fitness.

If you would like to know more about the Retained Duty System, the process for applying for a position, the pay and benefits, and the training required, visit our Careers page on our website or visit your local fire station.
