Data Protection Complaints

This form is specific to complaints relating to data protection and should be used where you are unhappy with the way your personal data has been processed by Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service. This could include:

• The response you have received to an access request

• Processing without consent

• Data breaches

I understand that Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service will use the information provided in this form to investigate and respond to my complaint in accordance with its Privacy Notice.*

How to complain

The Service may receive complaints in writing or verbally (over the telephone or in person).

What happens once we receive a complaint

You will receive acknowledgement of our receipt of your complaint, the issue will then beinvestigated, and you will be informed of the outcome within 30 days. Where it is not possible to meet the 30 day deadline, you will be notified and provided with an alternative timescale.

In the case of a serious complaint, the Information Governance Officer may refer the complaint to the Data Protection Officer to consider, following the same process.

Appeals mechanism

If the complainant is not satisfied with the outcome of the complaint as advised, an appeal mechanism is provided via the Deputy Chief Fire Officer (DCFO).

In the event of an appeal, the complainant will be given a written decision of the appeal outcome and related explanation for the decision. This will be provided as soon as reasonably practicable and the DCFO will advise of the likely time for consideration based on the issue/s in question. The anticipated timescale for a response will be communicated to the complainant. 

If the complainant wishes, they may escalate their complaint to the Information Commissioners Office:
