Address: New Street, Haslingden
Incident Number: 1903000361
A car on fire in a garage has prompted a response of fire engines and crews from Haslingden, Rawtenstall, Hyndburn (fire engine plus Aerial Ladder Platform – ALP) and from Greater Manchester Fire Service. Gas cylinders are known to be in the garage and precautions are being taken to ensure they do not escalate the fire. The LFRS drone is in use, it’s thermal imaging camera focused on the cylinders to monitor their temperature and enable firefighters to identify the most effective tactics to bring the incident to a close. No casualties are reported.
Update at 12.30pm: a cordon is in place and residents nearest to the garage have been evacuated as a precaution until the gas cylinders in the garage have been cooled down sufficiently to be made safe. There is a smoke plume and our advice is that windows should be kept shut. Ground-mounted, hand held and Aerial Ladder Platform water jets are in use.
Update at 1.20pm: shops on Manchester Road were closed as a precaution for a while but with the fire now nearly out have been allowed to reopen. Road closures on Dearden Gate and New Street remain a while longer.
