At 17:40 on 10th June 2025, one fire crew from Chorley responded to a large animal rescue on Smithy Brow, Wrightington. The incident involved a horse with its back legs trapped in a tubular steel gate. Firefighters used cutting equipment and a sharp edge protection kit to release the horse. The crew were on scene for twenty minutes, and the horse was left in the care of a vet.
