At 01:43 on the 21st January 2026, six fire engines and an aerial ladder platform attended a commercial building fire on Railway Street, Stacksteads, Bacup. Firefighters are wearing breathing apparatus and using three hose reel jets, two triple extension ladders and a ground monitor to extinguish the fire.
If you can see or smell smoke, please keep your windows and doors closed and please avoid the area.

This incident now has 10 fire engines and an aerial ladder platform in attendance with firefighting operations continuing. If you can see or smell smoke, please continue to keep your windows and doors closed.
There are several road closures on Railway Street, Newchurch Road and the surrounding areas so please check and plan your journey accordingly. The drone unit it also in attendance, so please do not fly drones nearby as you will obstruct emergency operations, thank you.
Update at 9am:
Firefighting operations are still underway and road closures remain on Newchurch Road, so please try to avoid the area.
Our crews and partner agencies will have an attendance throughout today and are working together to firstly extinguish the fire; undertake an investigation and to minimise the impact to the local community and surrounding areas.

The incident has now been reduced to five fire engines and one aerial ladder platform. The fire is now under control and firefighters are damping down at the commercial unit. Firefighters will remain at the scene for most of the day.
