At 15:11 hours on the 19th of May 2024, two fire engines from Nelson responded to an incident on Smith Street, Nelson. The fire was located on the roof of a garage and was confined to the roof space. Firefighters used one hose reel and a triple extension ladder to extinguish the fire and secure the scene. The crews were in attendance for approximately forty-five minutes.
