At 12:54 on 17 May 2024, three fire engines from Ormskirk, Skelmersdale, and Preston, along with the Urban Search and Rescue team from Chorley and the water bowser and support from Leyland, responded to a road traffic collision on the M58 East between Junctions 3 and 4. The fire service utilized two hose reels and two sets of breathing apparatus at the scene. Crews remained in attendance for several hours.
