At 7:17pm on Wednesday 13 May 2026, three fire engines from Burnley and Hyndburn attended a road traffic collision on the M65 eastbound between junctions 8 and 9. The incident involved multiple vehicles. Crews assisted two casualties from vehicles, while a further three casualties were handed into the care of the North West Ambulance Service. Firefighters used one thermal imaging camera and two gas monitors whilst working to make the scene safe. Crews were in attendance for approximately one hour and 30 minutes.
