At 10:40 hours on 16th October 2025, two fire engines from Chorley and Wigan attended a fire involving a small vehicle on the M61 southbound between junctions eight and six. Firefighters used one hose reel and two breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire. Crews remained in attendance for approximately one hour and ten minutes.
