At 13:24 on 17th January 2026, five fire engines from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service attended a vehicle fire incident on the M6 motorway southbound between junctions 31A and 31. Firefighters extinguished the fire and used two breathing apparatus, two hosereel jets, and a thermal imaging camera. Crews were in attendance on scene for approximately one hour and twenty minutes.
