Firefighters are currently dealing with a fire involving general waste at the Clifton Marsh Landfill Site on Preston New Road, Newton with Clifton.
Four fire engines from Lytham, Preston, Fulwood and Penwortham are in attendance, supported by specialist resources. Crews are working with site staff to tackle the fire and establish water supplies.
A large smoke plume is affecting the surrounding area. If you live or work nearby and can see or smell smoke, please keep windows and doors closed, and avoid the area where possible.
We are working closely with partner agencies, including the Environment Agency, and will provide further information as the incident develops.
Update at 11:30 - Firefighters remain in attendance at the fire involving waste.
The incident involves a deep-seated fire affecting a large quantity of domestic and commercial waste. Crews are working alongside site staff and using specialist equipment and site machinery to break up and extinguish the affected material.
A visible smoke plume remains present in the area. Residents who are affected by smoke are advised to keep their windows and doors closed.
There are currently no reports of any casualties. Partner agencies have been informed and firefighters will remain at the scene while work continues to bring the incident under control.
