Wildfire in Darwen

At 16:25 on the 12th July, fire engines and specialist appliances in attendance at a wildfire near Belgrave Road, Darwen Moorland in Darwen. Firefighters are now at the scene and firefighting operations are underway.
The aerial drone team are also in attendance, please do not fly drones nearby as you will obstruct emergency operations.
Please avoid the area, thank you.

Update at 22:00: Firefighting operations continue with firefighters using the Hagglund vehicles to mointor and extinguish the wildfire. We ask the public to still avoid the area, thank you.

Update at 09:00 on 13th July: Firefighters are at the scene monitoring and extinguishing remaining hotspots. Please avoid the area.

We ask the public, over the next couple of weeks, when visiting nearby to stick to public paths and bridleways in the affected area and avoid roaming open access areas to allow the damaged ground and plant life to recover.
