One fire engine from Ormskirk and two from neighbouring Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service attended a fire involving an outbuilding and rubbish at a domestic property on Rimmer Green in Scarisbrick.
Firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus used one hose reel and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire.
One casualty was taken to hospital after suffering the effects of smoke inhalation.
